Michael Barker is Co-President of Sony Classics Films and was recently awarded the Gotham Lifetime Industry Achievement Award for his work with independent cinema. James Schamus is associate professor at Columbia University's School of the Arts and and is a producer and screenwriter. He has worked on such films as Todd Solondez's Happiness, Todd Haynes' Safe, and Ang Lee's The Ice Storm. Most recently he has collaborated with Ang Lee again on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which will screen at Doc at 6:30 on November 29. Barker and Schamus will discuss Schamus' recent article in Filmmaker Magazine, "IFP Rant," relating to the state of independent cinema amid today's media conglomerates.
