Set in the 60's, it follows Lou, a twelve year old girl, as she daydreams in a treehouse, wins a rock throwing contest and is horrified to discover her best friend is taking an interest in earrings and boys. Completeing the picture are clips from a wide array of old scientific and educational films which blend seamlessly into the beautiful black and white images of Lou's world. With this film Friedrich has "woven a rich and provocative tapestry that assaults complacent assumptions about pubescent desire and lesbian identity" (Yvonne Rainer).
