Exploits of Elaine: Episodes 1 – 3 (1914)

<br />

When:
Friday, March 31, 2006, 7:00pm - 7:00pm
Description:
Designed as a showcase for Pathé star Pearl White, the fourteen chapter series of The Exploits focuses on Elaine Dodge's (Pearl White) search for her father's murderer, a mysterious villain known only as the Clutching Hand. Elaine is aided in her quest by scientific detective Craig Kennedy (Arnold Daly), a popular literary character created by Arthur Reeve, often touted in the 1910s as the "American Sherlock Holmes." The character who generated public interest in unexpected ways, however, was "The Clutching Hand," the enigmatic master-criminal whose gnarled hand emblazoned the serial's advertising campaign. The first three episodes will be screened: The Clutching Hand, The Twilight Sleep, and The Vanishing Jewels. [35mm, 60 minutes, prints courtesy of George Eastman House]
