Flood Tide

A group of artists living in a small, post-industrial town chase jobs, struggle with bills, and use art and music to build their own insular world.  When a friend dies, they set out on an extraordinary voyage, unknowingly accompanied by her ghostly presence.  A collaboration with artist Swoon’s project to float seven large sculptures down the Hudson River, Flood Tide blends documentation of the journey with layers of fiction, mythology, and oral history to create a film that both documents and reimagines the real-life event. Featuring an all-original score by Minneapolis chamber pop band Dark Dark Dark as well as a special performance by renowned experimental musician Pauline Oliveros.

Filmmaker and musician Todd Chandler’s work has been featured at The Hammer Museum, Mass MoCA, Museum of the Moving Image, Rooftop Films, 01SJ Biennial, and The San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art. He was a founding member of chamber folk band Dark Dark Dark. In addition to touring music venues in Europe and in the United States, the band performed at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, The Walker Museum in Minneapolis, and at the Venice. Chandler has an MFA in Integrated Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His work has been supported by New York Foundation for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, Experimental Television Center, free103point9, the Wexner Center for the Arts, and the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media Performing Arts Center (EMPAC).
