Notes:
This utter aloneness is at the center of "Taxi Driver," one of the best and most powerful of all films, and perhaps it is why so many people connect with it even though Travis Bickle would seem to be the most alienating of movie heroes. We have all felt as alone as Travis. Most of us are better at dealing with it. Won the Palme d’Or at Cannes 1976, and 1976 Baftas for Best Supporting Actress (Jodie Foster) and “Anthony Asquith Award for Music” (Bernard Herrmann). Supplemental material includes: audio commentary by Robert Kolker (professor) or Paul Schrader (writer) (both available subtitled); original screenplay. 16 min interview with Scorsese on TAXI DRIVER (from 2007); featurette on the production of TAXI DRIVER; GOD’S LONELY MAN, 20min discussion between Paul Schrader and Robert Kolker; tributes to the film from Oliver Stone, Robert DeNiro and others; TAXI DRIVER STORIES; MAKING OF TAXI DRIVER (dir: L. Bouzereau, 1999, 70 min); TRAVIS’ NEW YORK, a comparison of NY 1975 and NY now; interactive map of the film’s locations, then and now; original storyboards; stills gallery.
