The 2026 Cinema and Media Studies Graduate Conference shall have an evening screening at 7pm on the 24th of April in the Logan Center Screening Room to accompany their slate of 20 speakers on the theme of Inter-Media. The conference (which, with the exception of the screening, will take place in Cobb Hall 307) and screening will explore fusions of multiple media and bodies, drawing from contemporary affect studies and historic inter-media art movements to investigate inter-ness in all its varieties.
The keynote address will be delivered by Miryam Sas, professor of Comparative Literature & Film at the University of California Berkley, who has researched inter-media practices of urban artists in the Japanese avant-garde movements of the 1960s. She will be speaking about her research on wider Japanese art movements and media theories at the conference.
There will be 6 graduate panels in total, with a particular focus across the panels being how embodiment is produced within and through new media such as wristwatches, biometric displays, and touchscreens. Some other topics presenters will discuss include drone imaging, Taiwanese puppetry, dating simulators, as well as artworks by Joan Jonas, Qiu Miaojin and Daito Manabe. (Final screening program TBD, TRT approx. 65 minutes)
This event is free and open to the public. Doors will open thirty minutes prior to showtime.
