Queerly Chinese Cinema screenings

with filmmakers Cui Zi En and Yau Ching

When:
Thursday, May 8, 2003, 12:00am - 12:00am
Description:

A visually perverse and frankly queer program on Queerly Chinese Cinemas. Directors Cui Zi En, the PRC's leading gay activist and academic, and Yau Ching, a prison activist and queer professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic, present their most recent work and discuss the roles of lesbians, gays and queers in the new kinds of cinema radicalism in China and Hong Kong. Ho Yuk Let's Love Hong Kong by Yau looks at female sexuality and desire in a film set in futuristic Hong Kong. Cui Zi En will show Enter the Clowns, The Old Testaments, and The Positive and Negative Aspects of the Public Toilet.

Co-sponsored by Franke Institute, the Center for Gender Studies, the Center for East Asian Studies, the Mass Culture Workshop, Cinema and Media Studies, and the Experimental Film Club.
