Godzilla Meets Mona Lisa (Ralph Arlyck, 1983)

When:
Friday, March 7, 2008, 7:00pm - 7:00pm
Description:
In conjunction with the Graduate Cinema Conference on April 4-5, the Film Studies Center and the Experimental Film Club present several programs devoted to essay films and experimental documentaries. Godzilla Meets Mona Lisa (Ralph Arlyck, 1983, 16mm, 56 minutes) Filmmaker Ralph Arlyck visits France's controversial "democratic" cultural complex on the plateau Beaubourg ("Godzilla"), and later the Louvre, as a means of probing the fundamental question of who art is really for. Screens with: The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal (Matt McCormick, 2002, 16mm, 17 minutes) A tongue-in-cheek exploration of graffiti removal, an art "movement" that shows characteristics of abstract expressionism, minimalism and Russian constructivism, while being created by artists who are unconscious of their artistic achievements.
