Pictures and Sounds: Chicago’s Finest Avant-Garde Musicians Accompany Silent Film

Saturday, March 7, 2009 - 12:00am

WHPK and the Film Studies Center are proud to present Pictures and Sounds, an annual multimedia event that presents silent films with live musical accompaniment. This year, a diverse quartet of outstanding improvisers will be creating soundtracks to a group of films that range from experimental classics to reconfigured industrial films.

The lineup features:
Vertonen – Chicago’s greatest noise/drone innovator.
Lord of the Yum Yum – Electronic loops and scat/beatbox vocals combine for futuristic joyful sounds.
Pillars and Tongues – Chicago’s masters of atmospheric folk-jazz improvisations.
Christmas Woods – Solo project for the percussive side of Detroit damage rockers Tentacle Lizardo
