The Ballad of Fred Hersch

When:
Thursday, February 9, 2017, 7:00pm - 7:00pm
Description:

Regarded as one of the finest jazz pianists and composers working today, Fred Hersch is a genre unto himself who has influenced a new generation of musicians and jazz itself. He is also an HIV-positive, openly gay man. This intimate portrait examines his remarkable journey from white Midwestern piano prodigy to worldwide fame, in which he overcame prejudice, illness, a two-month coma, and the arduous rehabilitation necessary for him to play the piano again.

(Charlotte Lagarde and Carrie Lozano, USA, 2016, 74 min., DCP)

The Fred Hersch Trio will be playing at the Logan Center for the Arts on Friday, February 10 at 7:30pm as part of Jazz at the Logan.
