Based on the novel by Agota Kristof, this film follows Tobias Horvath from his miserable childhood in Eastern Europe to his present position as a worker in a Swiss watch factory. Weighed down by the repetitive routine of his daily life, Tobias is haunted by nightmares and visions, seeking refuge by writing and waiting for an imaginary woman, Line. When he meets the real woman of his imagination, Tobias falls in love, despite the impossible circumstances.
