Labor and de-industrialization are the primary focus of this group of films in the last of the of Kartemquin series screenings:  Taylor Chain I: A Story in a Union Local (1973),  The Last Pullman Car (1983) and  What's Happening at Local 70? (1975).

Taylor Chain I: A Story in a Union Local follows the gritty realities of a seven-week strike at a small Indiana chain factory.  Volatile union meetings and tense confrontations on the picket line provide an inside view of a union on the edge.   The Last Pullman Car recalls 1981, the year George Pullman's sleeping car empire collapses, and the steelworkers who suffer most fight to save their jobs and the American rail car industry.   Edited in-camera and shown around Chicago, the groundbreaking documentary What's Happening at Local 70? was instrumental in the outcome of the successful 1975 strike at the Illinois Bureau of Employment Security.
