The Future is Behind You (2004)

When:
Saturday, May 10, 2008, 7:00pm - 7:00pm
Description:
Abigail Child, film/videomaker, poet and scholar, incorporates montage and unexpected sound/image relations to infuse her extensive body of work with humor and ephemeral beauty. Many of her films explore strategies for rewriting narrative and investigating public space through memory and history. This program features her most recent work, including Cake and Steak, the first part of a series of digital projections that excavate ‘girl training' in the legacy of home movie and post-war American suburban culture; The Future is Behind You, a fictional story composed from an anonymous family archive from 1930's Europe, reconstructed to emphasize gender acculturation in two sisters who play, race, fight, kiss and grow up together under the shadow of oncoming history; Blonde Fur, and Mirror World, a reshaping of Mehboob Khan's classic Bollywood feature AAN into surrealist noir.
